Politiken Publishes Ambassador Feng Tie’s Letter on Article by Joseph Wu
2022-09-23 21:03

On 22 September, Danish newspaper Politiken published a letter by Ambassador Feng Tie, refuting the false viewpoints of an article by Joseph Wu recently published in the newspaper. The full text of the letter is as follows:

The Politiken recently published an article by Joseph Wu. It must be pointed out that Taiwan is a part of China, not a sovereign state. Joseph Wu is not the so-called "foreign minister" but a hard-core separatist for "Taiwan independence" . For some time, Joseph Wu has been wildly spreading "Taiwan independence" rhetoric and advocating the so-called "Taiwan's participation in the United Nations". By doing this, he has been blatantly challenging the universally recognized one-China principle. No matter how hard Joseph Wu tries to distort the facts and confound black and white, he can never change the historical fact and legal basis that the mainland and Taiwan belong to the same China.

There is only one China in the world, Taiwan is a part of China, and the Government of the People's Republic of China is the sole legal government representing the whole of China. The one-China principle is the common understanding of the international community and a recognized basic norm of international relations. The 181 countries around the world that have established diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China all recognize the one-China principle and are committed to handling Taiwan-related issues within the one-China framework. In line with this principle, Taiwan has no right to participate in the United Nations and other international organizations composed only of sovereign states.

The DDP authorities in Taiwan have been colluding with external forces, constantly seeking "independence" and making provocations to undermine cross-Strait relations. This is the root cause of the current tension in the Taiwan Strait. We hope all parties have a clear understanding of the cause and nature of the current tensions across the Taiwan Strait, oppose the attempts of “Taiwan independence” separatist, support China’s legitimate position, and work together to safeguard peace in the Taiwan Strait and across the region.
