Embassy Spokesperson's Remarks on Copenhagen Democracy Summit 2022
2022-06-11 16:11

The so-called Copenhagen Democracy Summit smeared China on democracy and human rights. Ignoring and distorting facts, it is full of ideological bias and political lies. The “summit” also invited a handful of Taiwan seperatists to advocate “Taiwan independence”, seriously violating the one-China principle and interfering in China's internal affairs.

It is up to the people to judge whether their own country is democratic and to assess its human rights situation. Over the years, China has been advancing whole-process people's democracy, promoting legal safeguard for human rights and upholding social equity and justice. The Chinese people now enjoy fuller, broader and more comprehensive democratic rights. China’s whole-process people’s democracy is a high quality democracy that has promoted national development, social progress and people's sense of fulfillment, happiness and security. We urge relevant countries, organizations and some western politicians to relect on their own problems and crimes in the fields of democracy and human rights instead of pointing fingers at China.

There is only one China in the world. Taiwan is part of China. The government of the People’s Republic of China is the sole legal government representing whole China. This is the common understanding of the international community. The Taiwan question is entirely China’s internal affair and brooks no foreign interference. Some foreign forces attempt to make use of the Taiwan question to contain China while the separatists on the island seek foreign support for “Taiwan independence”. They will fail. No forces can hold back the Chinese people’s endeavor to reunify the nation.
