Embassy Spokesperson’s Remarks on the Copenhagen Democracy Summit 2026
2026-05-14 16:25

We have noticed that the “Copenhagen Democracy Summit” had invited “Taiwan independence” separatists to broadcast their fallacies. The “Summit”, with strong ideological bias, has peddled false narratives, promoted bloc confrontation, and smeared against China. In particular, it has made irresponsible accusations and spread outright falsehoods on the Taiwan question. We are firmly opposed to this.

Taiwan is an inalienable part of China’s territory. It has never been a country, and nor will it ever be in the future. Separatists like Lai Ching-te have been spreading separatist lies and fallacies in the name of “democracy”, solicited external backing for their separatist agenda, and deliberately stirred up tension across the Taiwan Strait, all of which point to their ill-intentioned agenda of separatism. Lai’s separatist lies will never change the fact that Taiwan is part of China, a fact supported by both history and law, nor will it ever undermine the international consensus on the one-China principle. We urge relevant parties to fully recognize the great sensitivity of the Taiwan question and the grave harm of supporting “Taiwan independence” separatist activities, adhere to the one-China principle, and stop offering platforms for the DPP authorities’ attempt to leverage external forces for their separatist agenda.
