We have noticed the misleading narrative recently peddled by certain Danish media concerning the nationality registration on Danish residence permits. Such narrative disregards the international consensus on the one-China principle, and interferes with normal bilateral relations. We hereby express our strong discontent and firm opposition over such narrative.
There is but one China in the world, and Taiwan is an inalienable part of China’s territory. Denmark recognizes the People’s Republic of China as the sole legal government representing the whole of China. The Danish government’s current practice on relevant nationality registration of the residence permit is a normal administrative act that fulfills its obligation under international law and also conforms with international consensus. China appreciates the Danish policy which reflects respect for China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Taiwan has been part of China’s territory since ancient times. China’s discovery, development, and administration of Taiwan can be traced back to as early as 230 AD. The Cairo Declaration, the Potsdam Proclamation, and UNGA Resolution 2758 together form the legal cornerstone of the postwar international order and clearly confirm the legal effect of Taiwan’s return to China.
China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity must not be challenged. Any attempt to exploit the nationality registration and pursue “one China, one Taiwan” is doomed to fail. We urge the relevant Danish media to stop disseminating disinformation, stop misleading readers, and ensure objective and fair reporting on China.
