2018-02-20 23:50

H.E. Ms. Mette Bock, Minister for Culture,

Ms. Ninna Hedeager Olsen, Vice Mayor of Copenhagen,

Ms. Mai Christiansen, Vice Chairman of the Liberal Alliance,

Mr. Lin Yanbiao, Chairman of the Overseas Chinese Association in Denmark,

Overseas compatriots, students and dear friends,

Guo Nian Hao! I'm delighted to be invited to attend the Chinese New Year celebrations hosted by overseas Chinese and scholars. On behalf of the Chinese Embassy in Denmark, I wish you and your families a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year!

2017 is a "Year of Harvest" for the China-Denmark relations. Prime Minister H.E. Mr. Lar Løkke Rasmussen, H.R.H Crown Prince Frederik, Chairman of the Liberal Alliance and foreign minister H.E. Mr. Anders Samuelsen paid successfully visits to China; Two countries released Joint Work Program(2017-2020); The bilateral trade volume reached 11.53 billion USD, increasing by 5.6%; China-Denmark Tourism Year has been successfully held; The foundation of the panda house in Copenhagen Zoo has also been successfully laid; Sino-Danish Center is already put into use; Denmark attended the Pujiang Innovation Forum for the first time as guest of honor; China built ice class container ship and super deep water sea work ship for Mærsk. All these bilateral cooperation have brought substantial benefits to two peoples.

The key to sound relations between states lies in the affinity between their people. People-to-people exchanges are social foundation of deepening China-Denmark Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Few days ago, We unfortunately lost an important contributor to China-Denmark cultural exchanges --- H.R.H. Prince Henrik. Prince Henrik is friendly to China and had been for long time dedicated to promoting China-Denmark friendship. The Chinese side and local Chinese in Denmark felt sorry to lose an old friend of China, and expressed their grief through different ways.

For many years, the overseas Chinese and scholars have been carrying forward Chinese traditional virtues, working hard and striking for excellence, actively integrating themselves into the local society. While contributing to the local economic growth and social development, they as well enhance bilateral cooperation in various fields such as economy and trade, science and education, energy, culture and so on, thus acting as "bridge" and "link" for people-to-people exchanges and cooperation. Up til now the Chinese New Year celebrations by the overseas Chinese and scholars have been successfully held for 16 years in a row, which became an important platform for overseas Chinese to promote Chinese culture and deepen people-to-people exchanges between two countries. In addition, I would like to commend the overseas Chinese and scholars for their continuous support to the Chinese Embassy, including consular protection.

2018 marks the 10th anniversary of the China-Denmark Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, which injects new dynamics into the development of bilateral relations. Not long ago, the Chinese Embassy respectively worked with the Danish Foreign Ministry and the Copenhagen municipal government to host a series of activities celebrating the 10th anniversary and Happy Chinese New Year. Over 200 Chinese lanterns lightened up Copenhagen, kicking off a-year-long celebrations, to which Danish people and diplomatic missions in Denmark paid great attention and positive responses with their thumbs up and looked forward to more such activities. I would also like to share some good news with you: Air China and Cathay Pacific Airways will open direct flights respectively from Beijing to Copenhagen and Hongkong to Copenhagen in May; The first China International Import Expo will be held in Shanghai in early November, we sincerely welcome the participation of Danish friends; Copenhagen will attend the Beijing International Design Week as guest of honor; I'm also looking forward to the early arrival of my two panda assistants. We are willing to grasp the opportunity with the Danish side on the basis of mutual respect and seeking common interests. We hope the overseas Chinese, scholars and students play their unique roles and jointly work for an even more shinning decade of the China-Denmark Comprehensive Strategic Partnership!

Thank you!
