Remarks by Ambassador Li Ruiyu at the Opening Concert of the Music Confucius Institute
2013-05-06 02:35

The Honorable Principal Bertel Kraruphas,

President Wang Cizhao,

Ladies and Gentlemen,

First of all, on behalf of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China, I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations on this opening concert of the Music Confucius Institute, and warmest welcome to all of you present today.

As a matter of fact, today's concert is only a part of the Opening Event to mark the establishment of the world's first Music Confucius Institute here in Denmark. Please also let me express my gratitude to those who have made great efforts and contributions to this grand event. As I see it, this Opening Event of the Institute is indeed of special significance.

Firstly, for this very concert, although we call it an opening concert, it is actually to show the Chinese and Danish audience how the Music Confucius Institute has worked so far through cooperation between the Central Conservatory of Music from China and the Royal Danish Academy of Music here in Copenhagen. Since the Institute was set up in June last year, the above-mentioned two academies have been active in academic exchanges which help strengthen mutual learning and understanding. Tonight, we are honored to have musicians from these two leading academies perform together on the same stage, and I believe they will present us a wonderful joint performance which has been expected for quite a long time.

Secondly, since the former Chinese president Hu Jintao's successful state visit to Denmark last year, a new chapter has been opened in China-Denmark relations, with an ever increasing momentum of people-to-people and cultural exchanges. The Opening Event of the Music Confucius Institute, including music performances, academic exchanges and lectures, constitute an important and dynamic part of our bilateral educational and cultural exchanges this year. Today alone, you will meet a group of outstanding talents from China's Central Conservatory of Music, who will show you the charm of Chinese traditional instruments, such as Yangqin, Pipa, Dizi and Guzheng.

Last but not least, the Opening Event of the Music Confucius Institute will act as a good platform for you to learn about Chinese culture. Art goes beyond borders. Different arts, be it oriental or occidental, can learn from each other and get well integrated. Thanks to the interesting programme of the Opening Event of the Institute, artists from the Royal Danish Academy of Music can get a better and deeper understanding of Chinese culture and arts, and ordinary Danish people can have an opportunity to enjoy beautiful Chinese music. I am also convinced that this Opening Event will facilitate further fruitful exchanges between China's Central Conservatory of Music and the Royal Danish Academy of Music.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Tonight, let's immerse ourselves in the beautiful music and enjoy this colorful cultural feast.

To conclude, I wish this Opening Concert of the Music Confucius Institute as well as its overall Opening Event a complete success.

Thank you.
