On May 16, Charge d’affaires Mr. Qin Jie of the Embassy of China in Denmark, held a meeting with Mr. Michael Aastrup Jensen, Chairman of the Foreign Policy Committee of the Danish Parliament. The two sides had a friendly exchange of views on China-Denmark relations, especially the Taiwan question. Mr. Jensen reaffirms that Denmark sticks to one-China policy in dealing with the Taiwan question.
Mr. Qin said, Denmark is one of the first western countries to establish diplomatic relations with the People’s Republic of China, and May 11 marks the 74th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Denmark. The past 74 years witnessed significant progress in China-Denmark relations, as evidenced by fruitful outcomes in bilateral cooperation in various fields, and deeper friendship between our two peoples. We should always keep our original aspiration for friendship in mind, uphold the principles of mutual respect, equal treatment and mutually beneficial cooperation, and jointly create a better future for China-Denmark relations.
Mr. Qin emphasized that, the Taiwan question bears on China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and concerns the national feelings of 1.4 billion Chinese people. The one-China principle is the political premise on which China establishes and develops diplomatic relations with Denmark and a prevailing consensus among the international community. China hopes Denmark can adhere to the one-China principle, deepen political mutual trust, and jointly promote the steady and sustained growth of China-Denmark Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
Mr. Jensen reaffirmed that Denmark attaches great importance to the relations with China. Denmark always sticks to the one-China policy, does not recognize Taiwan as a state. One-China policy is Denmark’s policy to deal with the Taiwan question. Maintaining peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait is of Denmark’s interest. Last year I led a delegation to visit China. The visit was impressive and very successful. Denmark is willing to engage and work with China for a peaceful world.
