Ambassador Feng said that China has honoured its commitment of making COVID-19 vaccines a global public good and has provided over 1.85 billion doses of vaccine to over 120 countries and international organizations, more than any other country in the world. President Xi Jinping recently announced that China will provide an additional 1 billion doses of vaccine to Africa to help the African Union achieve its goal of vaccinating 60 percent of the African population by 2022. In addition, China will undertake 10 medical and health projects for African countries, and send 1,500 medical personnel and public health experts to Africa. Ambassador Feng stressed that China will continue to support the WHO’s leading role in assisting national response and advancing international cooperation, and work with the international community in a concerted effort to defeat the pandemic.

Dr. Kluge spoke highly of China's active participation in the COVID-19 Vaccines Global Access (COVAX). He also expressed his appreciation of China's contribution to promoting equitable distribution of COVID-19 vaccines globally, especially to increasing the accessibility and affordability of COVID-19 vaccines in developing countries. Dr. Kluge briefed Ambassador Feng of the functions and work of the WHO Regional Office for Europe, and the current pandemic situation in Europe, including the latest development of Omicron coronavirus mutation.
